What ‘Kiss Me Kate’ reminded me of

It’s Saturday night. I’m just back from seeing a brilliant ‘Kiss Me Kate’ at Chichester Theatre. Everything about the show was excellent which reminded me of an aspect of what we’re like when we’re up to something – we have very high standards and do all we can to have others deliver to them.

But there is a trap that comes with having high standards and it’s that it’s easy for us to be triggered by people not meeting them, and so we make them wrong and do them down.

The key is to have the standards but guide, lead and encourage people to move up to them without making them wrong, that is, stay At Our Best rather than being triggered into Just Surviving.

So this week have a notice of:

– do you have high standards for what you want to achieve and are you making these clear to those around you or are you backing off a little?

– and second, do you make people wrong when they don’t meet them or stay At Your Best and bring them with you? You might want to notice yourself at home as well as work too!!
