About Anthony Landale
Anthony Landale is the Editor of
'Future, Engage, Deliver' and 'Leadership Plain and Simple' and as well as being an experienced business writer has over 20 years experience as a coach, facilitator and leadership consultant. He is a core member of the SRA team.
As a leadership consultant my focus is on helping leaders to raise their game, release their energy and deliver faster and/or better performance. This always means helping them to get clear on what matters to them, what impact they want to make and what reputation they want to build. And with my clients’ teams I then help to harness and align team energy and commitment to deliver breakthrough projects and goals.
This consulting is based on what is proven to make a big difference. For individuals it helps them to show up much more powerfully. For teams it can mean transforming the culture. For organisations the intent is to deliver faster and smarter and with a greater sense of purpose.
I think I've got the best job in the world. I help people to see how they can get the best out of themselves and their people. I work with some clients on short term projects but with other clients I have relationships that evolve over years. And in those assignments I act variously as coach, mentor, partner as well as someone who can interrupt unhelpful norms.
Meanwhile at home I have a brilliant team behind me. My wife Margaret and my two teenage daughters make sure I keep my feet firmly on the ground and constantly remind me to bring my best to my home life too. And on top of this I live in the Oxfordshire countryside on the River Evenlode which I believe is one of the most beautiful places in the country.

I’ve been with a few teams recently where the topIc of ‘asking for help’ has caused a bit of a stir. Regular readers will know how much emphasis we place on the need for leaders to have a great support network. We believe you simply can’t grow and develop on your own. So why the [...]

We all on occasions face unnerving situations – those moments when we feel ourselves to be on the edge of our comfort zone when, for example, we need to speak up, take a difficult decision or take what feels like a big risk. It isn’t easy. In FED terms this is where you need courage [...]

I was reflecting on a walk that I went on this time last year in the Yorkshire Dales. It was a glorious Spring day and I was feeling very peaceful. And then this young, inconsiderate lad on a very loud motorbike drove by, careless of the disturbance he was making and intent, it seemed to [...]

Do you sometimes notice colleagues and friends who appear to have lost their zest for work and life? They are working hard but not getting any satisfaction from their endeavours. What’s going on? There’s a writer called David Whyte who considers this issue in a great book called The Heart Aroused. He tells the story [...]

After my post at the end of last month several people left me messages about Jim. They recognized him. And one real life Jim even wondered if it was him. It wasn’t. What I take from this is that we meet thousands of managers and leaders who, despite their best intentions and despite following well [...]

I was speaking to a newly appointed manager, Jim, last week. He has a team of 16 people and he had begun to have those first conversations with them about objectives, performance and so on. There was little spark in these initial meetings and no sense that people were preparing differently with Jim than with [...]

I was working with a manager recently who told me that her boss was brutal. The style of this boss was one of being intimidating and his reputation was as someone ‘not to be messed with’. This boss has a very senior position in a large organisation and that organisation is currently doing pretty well. [...]

Executives often tell me ‘I’m really not like this at home’. So what part of us gets left behind when we walk into work and what are the potential costs of such censorship? Let me expand by telling you about a senior manager called Colin who I’ve been working with recently. After a particular session [...]

Have you noticed that there are always some questions or issues that people seem to ignore? This phenomenon is relevant for businesses, individual leaders and for teams – but here I’m going to focus primarily on teams because we so quickly pick up in teams what is, and isn’t, acceptable in terms of mindset and [...]
